Dr. Judy C. Welch
Judy C. Welch graduated from the University of Florida with a B.A. in Speech Pathology and Audiology. She earned a Masters degree in Audiology and then her Doctorate of Audiology in 2001 from the University of Florida. Dr. Welch was a Clinical Fellow with the J. Hillis Miller Health Center at the University of Florida at Gainesville for two years. Then she was the Director of the Speech and Hearing Department at New Hanover memorial Hospital in Wilmington, N.C. Dr. Welch was also a staff audiologist and instructor for the graduate school at N.C. Memorial Hospital at Chapel Hill.
She joined the staff of WNC Ear, Nose and Throat Surgeons in 1985 where she practiced until 2005 when she opened the Brevard Hearing Center, a private audiology practice. This allowed for her to serve all her Brevard and Transylvania patients full time.
Dr. Welch is licensed by the State of North Carolina for Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensing. She has received specialty training in areas such as cochlear implants, digital hearing aid fittings, earmold modifications and probe microphone measurements.
She continues to see patients for full diagnostic testing, both adult and children. She also offers hearing aid fittings, and service of most hearing aid brands. As always, she has continued to be trained in all the new technologies that have come along and continue to improve hearing health care. She sees patients by self referral and also by medical doctor referral.
Judy is our Office Manager wearing different hats from making patient appointments to filing insurance claims. She has lived in Western North Carolina all her life graduating from Pisgah High in Canton. She earned an Associate Applied Science degree in Secretarial Science from Asheville Buncombe Tech.
Before joining Dr. Welch at the Brevard Hearing Center, she worked at WNC Ear, Nose, and Throat and Mt. Allergy and Asthma. In addition to working the past 20 years in the medical field, she started her career doing secretarial work at Ecusta in employment and later as a scheduler in Production Planning. Until recently, she continued to work part-time each tax season as a tax practitioner at Carolina Tax, Inc.
Judy and Jim, her husband of 40 years, live in Pisgah Forest with their Jack Russell Terrier, Bugles. They are in the law enforcement motorcycle club, the Defenders, and enjoy riding on their Harley. She enjoys her church work where she is active in the music ministry.
